Christian Martyrdom in Late Antiquity (100-400 AD):
Reality and Discourse, Theology and Religious Identity

Guest lecturer: Prof. dr. Johan Leemans,
Professor for Christianity in Late Antiquity, Coordinator of the Research Unit History of Church and Theology, KU Leuven, Belgium

Persecutio – In Oriente et Occidente

Guest lecturer: Prof. dr. Alexander W.H. Evers,
Independent scholar, until 2022 guest lecturer at the Institutum Patristicum Augustinianum, Rome

Program:
Monday – Friday, 10:00 – 12:00 and 16:00 – 18:00

The summer school is open to MA and PhD students in human sciences. A good command of the English language is required, since courses shall be given in English.
Total number of participants: 15

Participation fee for the entire duration of the summer school: 40 EUR. This fee covers accommodation and meals for the entire duration of the summer school. Travel expenses to and from Cluj-Napoca are not included.

Prof. dr. Johan Leemans (PhD 2001, KU Leuven) has a vast didactic and research experience of over two decades, having published numerous pioneering studies dedicated especially (but not only) to Early Christian hagiography, homiletics and theology, and has coordinated numerous research projects and edited numerous collective volumes.

Prof. dr. Alexander W.H. Evers (PhD 2002, Oxford University) has didactic and research experience in the sciences of Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages, as shown by studies and monographs on various subjects, from amongst which of special importance are the more recent, dedicated to the documentary sources that form the Collectio Avellana.
